Refrigerated Storage Containers

Temperature controlled storage containers or refrigerated storage containers are also known as reefer containers. They typically come in two forms; stationary/static and mobile units.

Stationary refrigerated storage containers or temperature controlled storage units are primarily utilized for ground level cold storage purposes. Capable of maintaining temperatures below 0 degrees F, they are heavily insulated and equipped with “all electric” temperature control systems. They can be used both inside and outside to meet whatever cold storage requirements are necessary.

Mobile units are commonly referred to as refrigerated trailers. Like their above counterparts, a refrigerated trailer also utilizes state-of-the-art insulation and temperature control systems. There are two primary classifications of mobile refrigeration units. They are “vehicle mounted” and “transportable.” An example of a vehicle mounted refrigeration trailer would be one that is permanently mounted on a container chassis. A transportable refrigeration trailer is one which can be loaded and unloaded on a flatbed truck or pulled by a tractor-trailer so it may be moved from one location or job site to another.

Whether the refrigerated container is stationary or mobile, they are a vital part in the everyday operation of the businesses that require cold storage. Many businesses simply don’t have the square footage within the building they occupy for a large walk-in cooler or freezer. Refrigerated containers and refrigerated trailers are available in 20’ and 40’ sizes. They can either be rented on a per month basis or purchased if the cold storage need is a permanent one.

Thousands of refrigerated containers are loaded on ships destined to other countries or to the US every day. There are often millions of dollars worth of produce, seafood and other perishable items which must be shipped and kept cold or frozen. That’s were refrigerated containers and mobile refrigeration trailers come into play. When you consider that a great deal of the food we eat is imported, you begin to understand why these refrigeration units are so important in our everyday life…even though we may not be aware of it.
